Dear Medium.com readers: If you have been following me for any length of time since 2020, you know that 2022 was the year the harmful things in my water and in life were crazy and overwhelming. “Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”, if memory serves, was a plot-moving song from Phantom of the Opera”. “Come Saturday Morning”, was part of the soundtrack to the 1970’s movie, “The Sterile Cuckoo”. Voila, there is my first joke of the last day of 2022! Both songs allow me to construct a warm nostalgic imagining to redeem every Saturday with my biological father. In my childhood, WC Nickerson = The Angry Green with envy Incredible Hulk, with a very resonant voice. Back in the day when Bill Bixby would drop his voice, slow his delivery almost imperceptibly and say some version of “You won’t like me when I get angry”, I immediately thought of my father’s voice. I do not ever remember him leading with “good morning”. In fact, if his attention/voice was directed at me and my brothers, there was only work to be done.

Right up until a few months ago, I excused his behavior because of the following:
