I only encountered Helen Rao’s ‘up close and personal’ chronicle of the human beings behind Artificial Intelligence AFTER first watching a news report on DemocracyNow! from West Memphis/Memphis, Tennessee about Elon Musk building and operating a methane gas waste product producing mega-plex that he believes will help him scale his AI product as the first and best of the bunch. If Musk and his team are to be believed, GORK will easily secure Tesla’s dominance in the AI race to make billions in revenue while rendering millions permanently unemployed. ONLY NOW has it become clear to me that Planet Earth will have less potable water, breathable air and arable land because of the massive quantities needed to realize the Silicone Valley/Texas-sized visions of Bill Gates, Peter Theil, Marc Andressen, Sam Altman —and their ‘nemesis’ Mr. Musk’s vision for the United States to “beat the Chinese” and achieve AI GLOBAL dominance.
