I just can’t trivialize the struggle the black organizations and parents have had over the generations now to get black history in the schools.
They had made lots of progress in
many places, and I have known many of the people involved. I also know when black teachers hid black history books under their desks to teach. I cannot pretend just a little progress was made when I have seen generals, white generals, who told me they learned black history intheir white high schools. I can’t overlook the numerous white teachers I met who have always taught black history as American history. Nope, I can’t play the things never changed except a little bit game. Nope. Now we have laws against teaching black history where they never existed as laws per se.

of us started and the ass whipping is being dished out to our children and lots of teachers.

Okay, but to know what Dr. SCOTT KNOWS and not speak against an unfair logical consequence(???!!!?), is conduct unbecoming a professional educator. Even his examples prove the current laws apparently never went out of fashion.

Teachers must find common cause and openly teach all of HISTORY, openly-- no more hidden books/ alternative booklists. The deepest dives must become all-inclusionary with all voices heard, but , especially those about persons of color in their unique voices and those written by other non- white academics, authors, etc-- especially those originally published in languages other than English (Google Translate can be stategic in opening up predominantly White European publishing/reading cyclic silos.) Read broadly, share widely. Support Public Library systems. The best have robust literacy programs to lift up entire communities.

Once upon a time in the 20th Century, Black couples merely SUSPECTED of such activities were murdered in their bedrooms ( Chicago, Detroit, etc.) and or had their neighborhoods firebombed into oblivion ( Philadelphia, PA).
