So of course I am sharing this story! [[The names of my teacher friends originally appreared here]] It is totally congruent with my earlier announcement of an exploratory campaign for elective office earlier today on FaceBook. My primary objective is the promotion of literacy after learning that illiteracy in the USA is in the double-digits and is increasing, not decreasing.
Granted what I am about to say next dates back to 2010, but ideally, English functional illiteracy rates in the US should only match the number of persons who have recently arrived from countries where English literacy was never required AND was not the immigrants' first language. This amounts to 2% of the total US population as measured in 2010. Now think about those living in states where multilingual voting and support for those struggling with functional illiteracy are not supported. Next, consider the overwhelming popularity of media outlets and political talking heads who memorize and repeatedly promote their positions using almost exclusively three-word-phrases, for example, Critical Race Theory, and all the unfortunate variants of Black Lives Matter.
Note well how one major political party GOP LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS consistently says "No!" to pending legislative agendas, but never responds with alternative legislative proposals. We have, at last count 22 states with Anti- CRT LAWS where even the sponsors and advocates/ lobbyists can define what the simple three word phrase means.
