October 13, 2022. Happy All Hallows Eve and Midterm Election Early Voting in the Los Angeles, CA metroplex. Waiting for a confirmation after my third attorney makes their first appearance for the Judge who is not Virginia Keeny, the orginal assigned judge. I also heard the Court Clerk refer to Thursdays as Charlie Stein day at court. Now keep in mind that Mr. Stein and all the pro bono Unlawful Detainer attorneys representing plaintiffs and or defendants earn a LA County government-contracted rate for each client represented and court appearance. Mr. Stein also has added his fees to the amount of rent owed that appears on my DOMUSO /Sy^^^^G@@@@@@ account, ahead of his apparent anticipation of winning the case and evicting yet another human being onto the streets of a residential/commercial neighborhood, knowing full well that since 2019 ( and likely earlier) there are only 40,000 available beds for last nights 60,000 to 80,000 already homeless human beings. Meanwhile, Plaintiff and Plaintiff’s law firm owe me $45,000.00 in renter’s harrassment fees and penalties for improper filing of a 100% incorrect 22VEUD00854 (Chris Nunez listed throughout the document that they never signed, form UD120, that would prove that Landlord had received COVID-19 renters relief funds on my behalf and that Landlord had begun the Section 8 voucher process with a copy of their voided check and their (agent’s?) signature was not filed by plaintiff’s attorney; amount plaintiff claims is owed is $3,100.00; this is at minimum off by more than $17,000 dollars actually owed, minus Mr. Stein’s fees.
Now there are any number of viable alternatives to my not being evicted to certain death in the middle of what is expected to be a remarkably cold and wet rainy season. Let’s list those now:
- ) Avoid another hopelessly clogged Civil Court process by paying me $45,000 that would more than bring me up to date on rent owed, execute a new lease, expedite the Section 8 process, already 90% complete, and get paid 100% of my rent and utilities before the end of the 2022 tax year. An affordably housed solution that gets everybody paid. If we agreed to that tonight, Thursday, October 13, 2022, I could finally focus full-time on earning a living and building my nascent brand launched in 1997- VernonNickersonSchoolcoach.
Once it became clear to me in 2016 that the USA was never going to live up to its promise and keep colonialist, xenophobic, misogynistic,skin-color-prejudice, and anti-public education with Winner-take-all Capitalism, I slowly began to prepare for a time when my business was best as 100% online and virtual. Now, to be 100% transparent, none of my previous employers (pre-LAUSD + UTLA) had any animus, petty vindictiveness, or hard feelings about this since they had all been able to compensate me at or below minimum wages paid to my peers with similar education, training and work experience becuase since 1938, Section 214 ©(1)(A) of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) has given California employers the ability to apply for a certificate that allows them to pay employees with disabilities less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.
So for example, the SMS for a family of 1 is $62,xxx.00, so my $57,xxx.00 LAUSD salary minus (approx. est. $12,000) UTLA dues qualified me for deeply discounted prescription medications from my partially-employer paid basic health coverage with Kaiser Permanente (excellent to superior internal medicine and all specialty care, nothing positive to say about Behavioral Medicine, a commonly known fact in CA in the 21st Century so far, by the way). It also allowed me to receive EBT.
When the unwritten cultural expectation is for teachers to provide paper towels, hand sanitizer, hand soap and bottled water to cover huge gaps in the LAUSD supply chain ( which only includes water as a choice via drinking fountains; almost every student and staff preferred anything with sugar or synthetic sweetners), one learns to appreciate the extra help with fresh fruits, vegetables and all other food items.

Yep, I am still gracious beyond all reason. If I had ‘Erin Brocovich’ money and infinite time to want to spend going after those complicit in exposing me to toxic water in public and private spaces, with an unknown decrease in my life expectancy, a $62 million (USD) settlement really makes more common sense.
So now, gentle readers and my Medium writing partner colleagues, I leave all suggestions for next steps in your capable hands. Since I have been bumped off of GoFundMe three times, I have come to believe a Zoom direct appeal/product demonstration project for my VNS/MHWHOFS/1OSOAB!/AGE brand family might be a more prudent approach.
For now, having no viable alternatives, I am happy to stay right where I am. However, I do not believe my fellow registered and voting Van Nuys neighbors should tolerate cruel, mendacious, greedy, immoral and unethical behaviors from too many licensed attorneys, their lawfirms, the Superior Court systems, Public Education systems, municipal and county and federal(?) governance systems and the corrupt, cannabalistic Corporations extant at this moment in World History and Current Events.
