Maybe we might disagree on a particular issue/set of issues Quiet as it is kept, not ever did I experience any disagreement. As an only recently retired dual credentialed LAUSD District Intern SPED educator with 50 years of experience, if I can validate what is said with multiple independent sources, I never had any issues agreeing with Ms. Reid and or Ms. Cross. But having come without their researched, written and published first person historical narratives, they are vulnerable to ego/ID ad hominem attacks. Next, imagine a room full of comparative first-person-historical narratives, identifying similarities, differences, a strong conservatism born of too much fighting within and without. Instead, hypervigilance, fear, distrust-after-cruel-trust violations, and a dominant European culture and writing-for-publication ownership of imprimaturs and the means of publication and voila(!) “purity standards/blood purity standards” recreate the elite, release of Pan African American 2.0, just the latest long-game spawn of the OG-MC masters of DIVIDE_AND_CONQUER.
Another logical consequence of PanAfricanAmerican Boomer Generation embracing the first-black-this-or-that, then settling for less than excellence by supporting less-than-high standards while rewarding mediocrity “just because they are not pink-skinned males”. When Michelle Obama cannot demand excellence in engaging and better-edited non-fiction narrative from Barack Hussein Obama, who should have followed her template and cut down his total pages by half, can we expect the 18–24 year old cohort to be anything besides frustrated and disappointed, again?

SO, as this engagement with the current zeitigest comes to a close, I encourage all writers, regardless of skin color, gender, LGBTQIA+ status, or political persuasion-of-the-moment to go back and find their too often hiding-in-plain-sight-with-”That Aunt or other cousin(S) willing to talk after attending too many memorials for Newly Ascended Ancestors” first person historical and therefore engage-able but unassailable possible truths, ASAP.
Besides, in the 21st Century, and due directly to the BEGINNING OF COVID-19 LOCKDOWN* the funerals are posted on You Tube. And please do not whine to me about Poison Ivy League schools no longer even bothering teaching the discipline of rehearsals-before-sharing-original content from personal devices — parents, give the speakers written note on their presentations. As I personally can attest, flawless modelling on the day-of-performance is simply and clearly NEVER ENOUGH.
*-Yes, about those leder-board Pyrrhic victories, born of lockdowns only, oddly, actually occurring in predetermined areas, ask why this was, is and ever might continue to be the reality.
