Seeing Halston’s Red and Remembering Willie’s Brown

I was primed not to like Halston. Therefore, I am glad I ignored the ignorance of trusting someone who had not lived the life I had loved. More specifically, I am glad I didn’t listen to the disparagement of most of the known film critic world about the new limited series on Netflix, created by the UBER-talented Ewan MacGregor inhabiting the good look and comfortable feel of Halston, the fashion icon. Creative gay icon/genius Ryan Murphy shoots and scores! This film helped me to finally understand my father’s lifelong love/hat relationship with New York City, New York.

Forever grateful is the way I felt about Ryan Murphy after Glee exited while it was still groundbreaking and iconic for several generations of fans. I will be digressing in-depth on Ryan Murphy’s major impact on my life. This wil happen in the run up to Father’s Day 2021. But right now, I really must insist that you all watch Halston. Alone or in groups, then go straight to bed. If want to learn its secrets and how they can expand you mind in all the best ways, you will write and thank me for whatever i contributed that made you go and see Halston- as produced by Ryan Murphy and his creative team.

Let me start at the very beginning, All the people surnamed Nickerson, Bell, Walker, Nash, Prather, Charles, Alexander, Proctor, ( and any other ancestor you know that I never knew or heard of) AND OR know me and any of my life story must see this movie to understand me and why they are compelled, finally, to confirm the heretofore hidden and denied realities of life with a veteran who was actually present anywhere where people were being killed needlessly. No one has ever had the insight and courage to engage in a class action suit filed in the World Court against all the One Percenters from the beginning of time until the present day.

Vernon, why so strident in that last paragraph? Well, gentle reader, Halston’s world is one my father knew intimately.My father Willie Curtis Nickerson and Roy Halston Frowick lived parallel lives, all the way from bonding with abused and exploited women in southern states with only the examples of white toxic masculinity to nurture them through adulthood. They knew at early ages how to unconditionally love and worship the Goddesses who saved their lives, typically at the cost of shortening their lives as heterosexual lovers, breeders, wives, and mothers. They made a point. To ensure their “special”, talented, and unique sons were at least aware of The Golden Rule and Unconditional Positive Regard. As a matter of fact, they role played it — whether on center stage Broadway in their sons’ lives or whether off-off-off-The Great White Way as their sons attempted to take center stage and launch their own adult lives.

Brilliant and feral in their creative power, beauty, and glory, their boys knew how to love every woman. Every woman was compelled to bare their souls in the presence of Halston and Curtis. Both would study fine and performing arts and use those skills to make each individual woman look fabulous because they were wearing bespoke clothing in luxurious fabrics that they could move in comfortably. This led to them feeling comortable, grounded and powerful in what they were wearing.

Note well the most epic designers have a charismatic, mesmerizing, and our hypnotic impact upon women in ways I defy a stereotypical toxic masculine man of any age and stage to understand and appreciate publicly. Privately, and these past 10 years quite publicly, they have been emboldened to practice raw and evil tactics against anyone with a hint of the skills Curtis and Halston mastered until they drew their last breaths in this plane of existence. Yes, both died of lung cancer, among other things. At the end, their families continued to build generational wealth for their small inner circles — and NO ONE ELSE BEYOND THOSE tiny circles, by design. Both designed for, and were loved by women. Men, sadly, from my POV, were only for lust, rarely, if ever, for love.

Yet because of all the -isms; racism, xenophobia, talent envy, fear loathing, misogyny, PTSD, being socialized to not show emotion of demonstrate their affection in public spaces, and the war/scarcity economy and its never ending need for terror and chaos and drama and comedy — both were lousy as disciplined and ruthless businessman, and one left his surviving family permanent generational wealth and real estate that has amazingly retained the bulk of its value — at least enough to to rule present generations for the fourth last years the futurists say Planet Earth has left. If you are a counting Queen, Year ONE= 2020. Basically, because it gives this writer hope and makes the mathematics easier for the people I have always loved and served — my current 18–22 year old cohort, born starting in the nineteen-nineties (1990’s).

That 90’s decade is crucial in my own journey of becoming as it was after my Masters in Theology, which came after confronting my parents about the incest that had wreaked havoc in our lives. BY this time, my father was at the height of his workaholism, the most legal and least diagnosed/treated of all deadly addictions. Note well how we venerate those who “worked until the day he died”, “poor man, he had to work all of his life”, “that’s what I want to do instead of retire, ever, less of what someone else demands, and more of what brings me joy and stimulates my body body, mind and soul.” That last quote was from me, Besides George Plimpton back in my childhood, he is the only one I know practiced before I began to manifest what i had determined 49 years ago, when I was 13 and had my first tutoring client had notifed me that she had earned her GED somewhere in her sixtieth decade of earthly existence.

Because of Halston, a pearl of such great price that every parent of children must see it- especially if your child has ever been “otherized”, or made to feel unwanted, unloved and abandoned by anyone at anytime in their lives- I can finally write these words without fear, doubt or reservation. I loved Willie C. Nickerson and Sadie W. Nickerson deeply, madly, fiercely. I worship the ground they walked upon. This means I will am and will remain the resistance because the Country of My Birth, the United States of America, One nation, UNDER NO MAN MADE DEITY, with liberty and justice for all, is, warts, HIV/AIDS and Covid w/variants, I am willing to work for as long as I here. Nothing else really matters because I do not matter anywhere else than right here on Planet Mother Earth. People, there are reasons why we never refer to Planet Father Earth.

Meanwhile, I’ll keep speaking up and speaking out while creating a plethora of historical artifacts. like Halston and Curtis, or rather , beyond Curtis and Halston, is a future that needs as many threads back to honesty and truth as all of us can produce. The American Idiot-class has a massive head start. That’s okay, turtles have a much more interesting journey that that infernal inferno Roadrunner.
Take a “me break” and watch Halston tonight, then sleep on to as long as you need to to get your epiphany. At least 72 million of us could know true happiness from the deep dive into a life so fantastic it became a fantasy and fascinating cautionary tale.

Writing to my former students, I realize me and their parents know exactly how to shepherd them through adulthood. Even though the darwinian systems that legislated against them no longer care once they turn 22. How wrong, how cruel, how stupid and evil is that! We will look back and see what a waste capitalism was and anything but an addictive debilitating drug. To be continued…
