Well to be specific:
A shopkeeper in 1916 who wanted people to have more time to shop;
The Germans and Brits to fight in WWI, so of course it continued in WWII; and
The post WWII golf lobby paid legislators to make it a virtual law, then blame/ scapegoat USA farmers.
Then the candy lobby paid to create more holiday candy sales(??)/ cane sugar addiction (csadd). This also benefitted doctors and dentists and liability lawyers world wide, by the way.

Farmers always woke and worked in parallel with nature. The largest land mammals surviving the ice age prepared for and went into hibernation until spring. They too cooperated/ coordinated with nature.
